dba8bb5f-e1eb-4c47-9103-a2174d17be6d.jpgLaCROSSE, Wis. - Norma J. (Rosenow) Peterson, 85, of La Crosse, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at the Hillview Health Care Center.

She was born in Sumner, Iowa, on Oct. 19, 1924, to Otto and Amanda (Pries) Schumacher. She married Reuben Rosenow on Dec. 7, 1947, in Sumner, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1994. Norma and Reuben spent numerous winters in Texas, where they become close friends with George and Helen (Schauland) Peterson. Norma and George were married on June 20, 1996, in Sumner, after they both lost their spouses.

Norma worked as a nurse's aide at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner for over 20 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Sumner and had been a life-long member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in rural Sumner until moving to La Crosse in 1996. While living in La Crosse, Norma was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Eagle's Auxiliary. Norma loved playing cards and was an avid square dancer.

She is survived by her husband, George, of La Crosse; two sons, Steven (RaNae) Rosenow of Pleasant Hill, and Robert Rosenow of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Justin (Mandy) Rosenow of Jacksonville, N. C., Brian (Rosie) Rosenow of Grimes, and Jennifer Rosenow of Altoona; and one great granddaughter, Asia Brewer of Altoona. She is further survived by one stepson, Bradley (Julie) Peterson of Stoddard, Wis.; three stepdaughters, Jill (Peterson) Smith of Onalaska, Wis., Sandra (Schauland) Sletten and her husband, Stuart, of La Crosse, and Susan (Schauland) Wilson, of Pensacola, Fla.; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Schumacher, of Sumner.

In addition to her first husband, Reuben, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Donna Rosenow; and a stepdaughter, Sally (Schauland) Webb.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at Asbury United Methodist Church in La Crosse. The Rev. Scott McMurray will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of service. A memorial service will also be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in rural Sumner with the Rev. Robert Treichel officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Union Mound Cemetery in Sumner at a later date. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family with arrangements.

Good-Bye, George...

George A. Peterson, 81, of La Crosse, died on Thursday, November 25, 2010, at the Franciscan Skemp Medical Center. He was born in La Crosse on March 25, 1929, to Ambrose and Adeline (Hauser) Peterson. He was a 1947 graduate of Logan High School. In 1952, George married Valerie Overhouse and they had two children, Brad and Jill, before later divorcing. He then married Helen Schauland in 1967, and she preceded him in death in 1992. George then married Norma Rosenow in 1996, and she preceded him in death in 2009.

 

George served with the U.S. Army from 1948 until 1951 and was a member of Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12. He was employed as a heat and frost insulator for Local 19 out of Milwaukee for over 35 years before retiring.

 

George was a member of Eagles Aerie 1254, the Masonic Lodge of La Crosse and the Santa Claus Club. He had been a member of the Zor Shrine since 1975 and the Firehouse Jesters, performing as a clown in many parades throughout the years. George was a caring and giving person and known for his sense of humor. He was also an accomplished oil painter who enjoyed painting wildlife scenes.

 

George is survived by one daughter, Jill Smith of Onalaska; one son, Bradley (Julie) Peterson of Stoddard; four grandchildren, Steven and Michelle Smith, Colton Peterson, and Kelley (Mike) Schulze; his former son-in-law, Tim Smith of La Crosse; four step-children, Sandra (Stuart) Sletten of La Crosse, Susan (Charles) Wilson of Pensacola, Fla., Steve (RaNae) Rosenow of Des Moines, Iowa, and Robert Rosenow of San Antonio, Texas; nine step-grandchildren, Pam Sletten, Vicki (Wyatt, Sr.) Wolfe, Mike Sletten, Tom Seiler, Jr., Matthew Wilson, Mark Wilson, Justin (Mandy) Rosenow, Brian (Rosie) Rosenow, and Jennifer Rosenow; and many step-great grandchildren. He is further survived by one sister, Judith Page of La Crosse; one brother, Robert Peterson of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Noggle, Beverly Egge, and an infant sister, Audrey; three brothers, Richard, James, and Kenneth Peterson; and two step-daughters, Sally (Schauland) Webb, and Donna Rosenow.

 

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 30th, at 11:00 A.M., at Asbury United Methodist Church. Rev. Scott McMurray will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M., and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
