Rode to Bryce Canyon National Park today. Weather was gorgeous. No wind, blue sky, low 80's, gorgeous. They had a shuttle running in this park as well as Zion so I got on it and took the photo op loop. Only problem was that the water had gone out at the campground but there was still water at the Visitor's Center so no big deal. Got some more good shots. As soon as I got back, though, the sky turned dark and a thundercloud rolled in. More thunder and lightening to accompany the rain. Biggest thing, though, was it got cold fast. Bryce is at 8000 ft. and, if the sun don't shine, it gets damn cold. Just laid in my tent and smoked a cigar until the rain stopped. I'm at Ruby's Inn now, an establishment just outside the park boundary. They've got internet terminals here too, now. Hell, if I hadn't left my laptop back at the campground, I could have sat in the lobby and used their free wireless connection. At least the food's as good as I remember it being. Had lunch here before heading into the park and now I'm back for dinner. I ride over to Capitol Reef National Park tomorrow. I think it's only about 75 miles from here so it should be another easy ride. Damn, I'd forgotten how beautiful the canyon country between Zion and Bryce is. You climb from 4000 ft to 8000 ft in a hurry over a lot of switchbacks so the going is slow. All the better to soak in the scenery. Tomorrow's ride, if memory serves, will be equally exquisite. Hope the weather holds out. Turns out, August is the second rainiest month out here. Thunderstorm season. Rode right through one yesterday. Saw a bunch of them in the offing today. Hope things stay dry long enough tomorrow to make the ride equally as enjoyable as today's.
